Description

This project aims to create the first persistent online world that, through gamification and the use of artificial intelligence techniques in the cloud, optimizes the process of rehabilitation, integration and social interaction of patients with brain injury, under the supervision and direction of care professionals. A virtual world will be designed that will exist at all times in the cloud, which users will access using low-cost, portable and usable devices, such as mobile devices and tablets. In this way, these devices will become a window to a world that will have its own life and which users will access whenever they wish, interacting with other users and virtual agents controlled by artificial intelligence. The project will therefore enable rehabilitation in a playful environment that will promote the rehabilitation of different abilities and social interaction outside the clinical environment. The provision of feedback about the patients’ performance and evolution will increase their motivation and active participation in the process of their recovery, increasing adherence to treatment and their social integration. The implementation of the platform in portable and low-cost tools will allow its use in home environments, thus improving accessibility to treatment and/or reinforcing the intensity of treatment, since the patient will be able to complement face-to-face rehabilitation in the clinic with online sessions at home, programmed and supervised by the healthcare professional. The information extracted from the interaction of patients with the virtual world and characters will be analyzed using machine learning and deep learning techniques, which will make it possible to determine their clinical condition, enabling clinical specialists to adjust treatment guidelines and project their evolution. The studies proposed in the project, finally, will enable to determine the reliability of the artificial intelligence algorithms developed, as well as the effectiveness of the system.
